To launch the Open Frame festivalfor 2012, Syncretism delivers a double bill to tempt, tease and titillate the ears, heart and body!
Former Yellow Swans member Pete Swanson (USA) is known primarily for one thing – sheer, physical walls of sound. His latest solo LP for the Type label Man With Potential is a blistering journey through a world of profound musical intensity, rich in densely-packed layers of rhythmic fury. A truly heart-racing mixture of sonic intensity, pounding rhythm and various layers of cacophony, Pitchfork described the album as being “like a caffeine-infused heartbeat, pumping blood into a mix of buzzing tones, rising waves, and cutting noise.”
Joining him on this special Syncretism bill and marking their Australian debut as a duo is Tujiko Noriko (Japan) and beat-making partner Tyme. Their 2011 Edition Mego album Gyu is a calculated explosion of all things J-Pop, taking the core values of the genre and inverting them into an alternate universe of provocative abstract pop. Bristling with a sense of optimism but never drifting into the realm of bubble gum, this record is unlike anything the pair has released previously – a true gem of unusual pop genius.
