ROAM ARTS FESTIVAL

Deadline:

WHEN : 11th – 14th April, 6:30 – 11:30pm
WHERE : Contortionist Studios

ROAM is Brisbane’s newest & most exciting creative arts festival. Held over four nights at Contortionist Studios in Woolloongabba, it will showcase scores of original new works from up-and-coming Brisbane artists of all mediums.

Each night, the doors and bar will open at SIXTHIRTY for you to come in, grab a drink, listen to the night’s DJ and get comfortable.

At SEVEN, somewhere in the space, an act will start – perhaps a short play? Interest piqued, you’ll roam on over and check it out. After that finishes, someone starts singing in another corner of the Studios. Naturally, you’ll roam that-a-way to have a listen. Step and repeat over two hours (interwoven, of course, with frequent trips to the bar) as you enjoy a wide range of original musical, theatrical, photographic, poetic, and artistic works. Sounds good, non?

Around NINE, the acts will wind up in time for the (long-awaited!) headline band. Each night a different Brisbane-based band will play a full set for your own aural delight! Grab some floor and chill, grab a partner and boogie, or grab your head and bang it as you soak up some great tunes.

At TEN, the headline act has strummed it’s last chord, but we’re far from finished. Take a quick time out coach to grab another drink, gulp some fresh air, find that elusive toilet and rest your over-cultured head for a minute, and then we’re back into it – now though, it’s all-player. Pull up some couch/beanbag/carpet/lap as we spend the rest of the night enjoying (depending on the night) the indisputable wonders of a trivia tournament, the star-making potential of open mic, or the ever-revealing showdowns of Games Night (including, but not limited to, games of the board-, card- and, if we’re lucky, ping-pong variety…) This, and alcohol, should see us through the night.
