Sam Cranstoun is an Australian artist working in drawing and installation. Cranstoun has a talent for the conceptual folding of historical material. The work in ‘Oil!’ explores the amalgamation and editing of particular tidbits of historical research. This merging and blurring allows questions surrounding the subjectivity of historical construction to emerge. Cranstoun challenges the realities of what we perceive true, within the representation of historical content. Past exhibitions include shows with Accidentally Annie Street, inbetweenspaces, Metro Arts and Melbourne’s 2010 Next Wave Festival. Sam has twice been a finalist in the Archibald Prize, while still completing his Fine Arts degree at the Queensland University of Technology.
