Metro Arts

ARTIST TALK Wednesday 10 August, 6pm

Brooke Ferguson culminates her time as Metro Arts’ 2011 Artist in Residence with a solo exhibition entitled Pause/Play. This significant solo exhibition involves ephemeral, object-based installations which explore the possibilities for sound as an active element within the visual arts experience. Brooke’s conceptually-driven practice focuses on the connections between materials, site, sound and the body. Since the beginning of her residency in February this year, Brooke has opened up her space on Thursday evenings for Nectarines (for G.B.), a series of improvised meetings, or events, with local artists also exploring sound in visual arts practice. The series has its origins in the legacy of George Brecht, specifically his project Nectarine: An Assemblage. Since graduating from the Bachelor of Fine Art, Visual Art (Hons.) course at Queensland University of Technology, Brooke has been active in Brisbane’s Artist-Run scene, with exhibitions with No Frills*, Boxcopy, LEVEL, Accidently Annie Street Space, as well as current Metro Arts’ ARI in Residence, inbetweenspaces.
