Faded, Painting Toward the Invisible

Deadline:

POP Gallery

This group exhibition from both emerging and established artists from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University explores a tendency in contemporary painting toward invisibility; a mode of painting that uses very little paint or creates a sense of a painting emptying out.

That emptying of painting is a strange contradiction. The intentional act of making things visible (in painting) can be a powerful method of foregrounding its opposite; disappearance or the invisible. The works in this exhibition perform reflexive engagements with painting and visibility, highlighting the perpetual human desire to truly see and understand what is before us.

Featured artists include: Holly Anderson, Paul Bai, James Barth, Simon Degroot, Kate Halling, Lachlan McKee, Annie O’Rourke, Jacob Ryan-McInally and Tyza Stewart.

Opening Times: Tuesday – Saturday, 10am to 4pm (Closed Sunday, Mondays and Good Friday)
Where: POP Gallery, 381 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, 4006
