artisan is Queensland’s leading craft and design organisation, dedicated to supporting, promoting and celebrating the state’s makers and designers. Established in 1970 as Craft Queensland and expanding in 2007 to include object, furniture and lighting design, artisan has evolved into a creative social enterprise that showcases the breadth of Queensland’s creative talent, from emerging practitioners to nationally recognised makers.
Located within Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct at the State Library of Queensland, artisan presents a dynamic program of exhibitions, workshops, professional development opportunities, artist residencies and community events. Its retail store offers visitors the opportunity to collect unique works directly from Queensland makers and designers.
As a champion of contemporary craft and design, artisan works across the state to build sustainable pathways for creative practitioners while fostering connections between makers, audiences, collectors and industry.
