Jan Manton Gallery is proud to present Just Light by Robyn Stacey. In this new series, Robyn continues to experiment with photography, focusing on its elemental qualities – light, colour and shadow.
Producing images of reflection rather than inspection, the photographs in Just Light reject the memorial function of photography of capturing an image in time. Instead, Stacey celebrates the two dimensional quality of the print and what makes a photograph a photograph. By elevating light and shadow, colour and time to content in their own right, Stacey creates beautifully simplistic pieces of work with a luminescent quality that appear as though they are glowing from behind the surface.
As one of Australia’s most acclaimed photographers, Robyn Stacey has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally since the mid–1980s. Her works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Robyn Stacedy has been the recipient of major awards, grants and residencies, including a number of Australia Council Visual Arts Board grants. Stacey’s work is held in notable public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of Western Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, the City of Sydney, Samstag Museum, as well as numerous university, corporate and private collections.
