QCA Thursdays are a space for the presentation and interpretation of contemporary visual arts and design practice, and a site for gathering, conversation and learning.
Embodied Memory: Sean Williams – Webb Gallery
This body of work examines the role that unarchived records, in the form of discarded objects, can play in reshaping those narratives, and how these stories can be subtly influenced. I am presenting colonial period objects as receptacles of memory that possess the potential to offer us alternate histories. They transcend the boundaries of time by capturing traces of the past as physical manifestations that can activate memories and shape narratives in the present.
DENIED: Sky Parra – Grey Street Gallery
In collaboration with metropolitan and regional communities, and leading legal scholar Dr Robert Moles, Sky Parra depicts those wrongfully convicted of serious crimes across Australia.
Representing the innocent as they need to be seen; as people who have been harmed by the system that ought to have protected them, DENIED aims to explore profound displacement and vulnerability. Utilising the humanising agency of paint, Parra renders sensitive works from face-to-face sittings to hold space for exchange and restore individuals’ dignity.
An Introspective: Kevin Marriage – Project Gallery
