Chris Neild’s latest exhibition, Taking a Line for a Walk, marks a striking evolution in his artistic journey. Once rooted in landscapes, Neild’s work has become increasingly abstract, culminating in a series of free-flowing geometric compositions inspired by Swiss artist Paul Klee’s notion that “a drawing is simply a line going for a walk.”
Using oil and charcoal on board, Neild lets his hand wander freely, creating organic, imperfect shapes—circles, squares, triangles—without rulers or compasses. These intuitive forms, often layered and intersecting, explore the relationships between space, movement, and balance.
After a creative hiatus, Neild rediscovered his passion through playful experimentation, leading to this collection. His works embrace spontaneity, where the act of drawing itself becomes as important as the final image. In Taking a Line for a Walk, Neild invites us to experience the freedom, rhythm, and joy of pure abstraction.
