Between You and I presents an excerpt of the artist’s current exploration of video installation work that investigates themes of personal narrative surrounding loss and trauma and how these experiences can be poetically reimagined. The work utilises language, moving image and sound to fragment and disrupt traditional linear narratives in order to conflate the spaces of memory and lived experience. The use of multiple video channels aims to heighten the audience’s awareness of the complex process of comprehending isolated experiences of language and image as they attempt to piece fragments together.

Annie Macindoe’s practice is concerned with how the conventions of public discourse often dictate that expressions of personal trauma are considered strictly private affairs. Her practice aims to critically and creatively explore how these intimate experiences and thoughts can be expressed through visual art mediums. Macindoe draws on her own fragmented memories of loss and trauma, and reframes these through word, image and sound to poetically reimagine these repressed memories and emotions through artworks. Her work aims to reframe the dialogue around public and private responses to trauma and open up a discussion of their potential for shared, affectual, experiences through art.
