Deadline:28th July, 2018

Expressions of Interest are now open to Artists, Creatives and Arts Workers aged 18-30 from across Australia, who are passionate about the future of the arts, and want to meet other like minded people, to become delegates for the first Arts Front Under 30 Symposium.

The AFU30 Symposium, led by independent artist Sara Strachan, is a key project of the four-year Arts Front initiative from Feral Arts. Arts Front supports artists to take the lead in shaping the future of culture and the arts in Australia, offering the challenge: what should culture and the arts in Australia look like in 2030, and how do we go about making our visions a reality?

The Symposium will see 100 young and emerging artists aged 18-30 converge in sunny Newcastle, NSW for three days of art-making, conversations, skills development and future visioning. Running September 26-28, it occurs at an exciting time in the City of Newcastle, leading up to This is Not Art – one of Australia’s leading contemporary and emerging arts festivals. Delegates can extend their stay in Newcastle and immerse themselves in a weekend of free arts and cultural activities with artists from around the country.

“Young people are increasingly locked out of a number of sectors in Australia, and the Australian Arts Sector is no exception. Very few, if any, young people are being included in the conversations that steer the direction of the Arts industry. With the AFU30 Symposium, we’re putting young people back in the driver’s seat, supporting them to build the arts landscape that they want to see,” says AFU30 lead Sara Strachan. “The Arts Front Under 30 Symposium will build on the dialogue and momentum created from the Australia Council for the Art’s investment in the 2016 and 2017 Youth Arts Summits and the 2016 Arts Front 2030 gathering.”

Delegates will be selected to ensure a geographical spread, diversity in artistic practice, cultural diversity, and perceived career benefits of the Symposium. Travel and accommodation bursaries are also available based on location. If you’re interested in applying and have any questions, or unsure if AFU30 is for you, check out the FAQ, or get in touch with Arts Front on contact@artsfront.com
