Opening Event – No Transaction No Miracle by Azadeh Hamzeii. (Finalist, 2019 National Graduate Show at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA).

The performance was filmed on a dried salt lake on the outskirts of Qom, Iran. Referencing the local practice of using coins as votive offerings, the work speaks to social and religious structures of power and control.

About Azadeh:

With a focus on the dialogues between the individual and the universal, Azadeh Hamzeii mines her personal history and cultural background as a Queenslander originally from Iran. Drawing from a range of subjects and materials including votive offerings, fishing hooks, canvas, and her father’s old film negatives, Hamzeii investigates the localised significance of objects and the potential to elevate their meaning, creating a broader human narrative.

Exhibition opening hours TBA
