Mitchell Fine Art

Queensland-based artist Carlos Barrios returns to Mitchell Fine Art with Heart Songs, a solo exhibition bringing together works spanning decades of his practice.

Described as his “heart’s songs”, the exhibition reveals Barrios’ deeply primal relationship to art-making. The works are imbued with love, soulfulness, and melancholy, reflecting a lifelong commitment to creative expression as an essential act of living.

Raised in El Salvador and the son of an archaeologist, Barrios was introduced early to ancient cultures and artefacts. The emotional force of these encounters continues to inform his life-affirming outlook, shaped also by witnessing the realities of the Salvadoran civil war. Through Heart Songs, Barrios invites audiences to experience art as a transformative and sustaining force.

Opening Event:
Friday 13 February 2026, 6:00–8:00pm
Artist in attendance | Free, no RSVP required
