The Condensery

Drawn to Home brings together recent work by artist Catherine O’Donnell. Known for her exquisite draftsmanship and elegant handling of architectural details, O’Donnell’s practice focuses on the suburban landscape, giving life to the commonly overlooked dwellings of everyday existence.

Through large scale drawing her work examines the architecture, culture and history in the everyday-ness of the urban and suburban environment. O’Donnell is particularly interested in the way that the vernacular architecture and streetscapes of the places we regularly inhabit become recessed into our minds like wallpaper – they are at once visible and invisible.

Catherine O’Donnell has exhibited widely across Australia including solo exhibitions at Carriageworks, Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre, Grafton Regional Gallery, Blacktown Art Centre, Murray Art Museum Albury, Penrith Regional Gallery and the National Art School. In 2020, O’Donnell was awarded the Gosford Art Prize, the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Acquisitive Award and the Waverley Art Prize. Her works are held in collections around Australia and New Zealand.
