Chantal Fraser’s upcoming exhibition #traditional #blurredlines, features a series of highly adorned headdresses that navigate symbols of tribal culture through a contemporary lens. Fraser investigates the aesthetics and symbols of traditional tribal irony, using personal possessions that are closely associated with modern life in the creation of each headpiece. The exhibition addresses how tribal aesthetics and masks are reappropriated and labelled in various contexts such as fashion, popular culture, religion, militia and in contemporary media outlets.
