WHERE : Ryan Renshaw Gallery

Chris Bond studied Fine Art at RMIT in the mid 1990s and began showing in 2000, participating initially in artist run and institutional spaces before being represented by Nellie Castan Gallery in 2005. He received a studio residency at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces in 2001, and has since featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including being selected for ACCA’s annual New exhibition in 2008. Over the past six years he has been included in curated exhibitions at Linden Gallery, Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Blindside, Centre for Contemporary Photography, Bus, Heide Museum of Modern Art, and the Melbourne Art Fair, where he returned in August 2010 in a solo capacity in Nellie Castan Gallery’s stand.

Chris routinely uses fiction to create parallel worlds of seeming authenticity. In the last decade he’s constructed false identities, transformed found objects into painted artifacts, simulated standard modes of artistic presentation and rewritten art history. He is particularly interested in decay, failure and obsolescence, leading to bodies of work that chart the decline and fall of artistic idealism.
