Award-winning conceptual artist Christina Lowry presents Ex Libris, a poetic and interdisciplinary response to avian extinction, mourning, and the museum. Through sculpture, taxidermy, photography, and installation, Lowry explores ecological loss, memory, and speculative archives.
The exhibition challenges extractive traditions with her concept of non-remnant taxidermy—sculptural representations of animals created without their physical remains. Viewers encounter delicate porcelain shells, woollen wings, and 3D-printed fossils that echo a vanishing natural world.
At the heart of the show is Vigilans Avis 2124, a speculative archive where birdwatchers of the future encounter extinct species only through preserved wet specimens. Jars of embryos and eggs become both elegies and warnings.
“These works evoke rather than extract biological presence. They propose new ways of seeing, remembering, and caring in the Anthropocene.” — Christina Lowry
As part of the exhibition, 1,000 handmade skulls—created in collaboration with the community—will be available for purchase by donation ($10 each), with proceeds supporting the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.
This project is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council.
