WHEN : 24th April – 11th May / Opening 24th April, 6:00pm
WHERE : Metro Arts

Crude Tools, Feeble Actions brings together new works by Brisbane based artist Anastasia Booth. The exhibition plays with the notion of folding the fanciful, highly erotic and DIY aesthetic across one another with unexpected results.

Booth’s art practice explores sexual fetish as a mode for investigating different theoretical and material discourses that focus on the re–imaging of female desire. Crude Tools, Feeble Actions expands on Booth’s interest in drawing associations between art history and erotica – how notions of materiality, marginality, and rituality can be linked to both sexual fetish and contemporary art practice. Working across installation, sculpture, video, performance and sound, Booth aims to examine and make tangible the paradoxes that encompass erotica and making art, and the potential for sensuality to fall short.

Anastasia Booth graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Visual Art) with Honours from the Queensland University of Technology in 2011. She has exhibited nationally including exhibitions at Odradek Project Space, Australian Experimental Art Foundation (Adelaide), Current Projects (Brisbane) and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art as a 2012 Hatched! finalist. She has been an active participant in the Brisbane visual art community as a former gallery manager and co-director of Boxcopy in Brisbane.

As part of Metro Art’s Friday Night: May, Anastasia will be hosting a live poetry reading in the gallery that will feature a range of artists and guests including Dhana Merritt, Archie Moore, and Courtney Pederson. Each guest has been invited to present a reading on the night or nominated another person to perform for them. With this event Anastasia is interested in the intimacy of spoken word and the sensual experience of text and personal narrative.
