Grounded in the idea that no event occurs in isolation, Daniel Clifford’s practice explores the unpredictable intersections that shape objects, identities, and lived experiences. These intersections—whether uplifting, devastating, or ambivalent—leave traces upon and within us, becoming part of our personal and collective narratives.
In Wherever They Place You, and Wherever I May Be, Clifford presents a compelling body of work including exploded bronze castings and monoprints on paper, developed in collaboration with Chris Hagen at Grey Hand Press. The ruptured bronze forms—compromised by force and chance—serve as tools of mark-making, capturing moments of transformation as well as destruction.
Here, rupture is not seen as an endpoint, but as a catalyst for change. Clifford invites viewers to reflect on imperfection, tension, and the tragicomic nature of existence. His practice asks us to consider the moments when collapse opens new possibilities—where a path forward may spiral from a place of impact.
Daniel Clifford, originally from Aotearoa New Zealand, is currently the Artistic Associate for Visual Arts at Metro Arts and Creative Lead at iAM Projects. He previously held the position of Principal of Art + Design at UAP and maintains a prominent standing in the Australian art community.
