Learn how to create your very own A5-sized sketchbook/journal in landscape format, with five fat sections filled with your most favourite papers. Hardboard covers wrapped with a special feature paper (or even your own art!). A leather spine with a choice of stitching styles, either criss-crossed with five stacks of ‘X’s in a wide choice of colours, or five neat vertical lines of stitching colour-coordinated to your book.
In this workshop you can make the perfect sketchbook or journal, and the technique is highly adaptable to albums and portfolios too. All materials are provided, and you can choose from a variety of eco-friendly upcycled leathers, an assortment of different papers for the book’s pages, and a colourful range of waxed-linen threads, all coming together to make a uniquely personalised book.
Ideal for complete beginners, as well as those who would like to expand their range of bookbinding techniques. You’ll be able to examine finished examples of a variety of criss-cross/longstitch sketchbooks/journals, and draw inspiration from the variations and possibilities.
All tools and materials are provided as part of the workshop, but you are welcome to bring your own items from home (i.e. A3 cutting mat, a metal ruler, craft/Stanley knife, pencil, awl, bonefolder), and we encourage you to bring along sheets of arty/coloured/found papers that you might want to use in your book.
Comprehensive instructions and templates are also included, to enable you to continue making more books at home.
