ELEMENTAL brings together 5 artists who explore the four elements (earth, air, fire & water) through their creative practice and chosen mediums. Swimming in colour, exploring unusual formations, indulging the senses with vibrancy and pushing the definitions of space Red Hill Gallery is pleased to present new work by Bill Powell, Keith Rowe, Phil Stallard, Zohar and Terry Swann.
Bill Powell’s lifelong passion is the exploration of clay as a medium with colour, form and texture set firmly at the heart of his creative practice. Bill’s signature technique is the inclusion of crystal glazes. Each piece is unique and unreproducible in its design – exploring the translucent nature of glass in combination with, and in contrast to, the space-defining clay object.
Keen to experiment with the depths of colour and unafraid to explore unusual formations, master glass blower Keith Rowe creates unique forms which explore emotion and imagination through the murrine glass-making process which originates from the Murano glass makers of Venice.
Zohar’s artistic expression is a combination of mixed media art, poetry as well as wired jewellery work which takes its inspiration from her own spiritual values and cultural background. Zohar is currently exploring a series of wired crowns which are designed to be worn and can be seen as wearable art forms.
Terry Swann has recently journeyed through East and West Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory during the early Dry Season. Travelling the waterways and traversing the areas around Kakadu, Terry indulges us with her vibrant watercolours as well as exploring the Victorian coastline.
Phil Stallard’s latest body of work is entitled Water Paintings and are quite literally swimming in colour by using the unique characteristics of oil painting to convey a sense of fluidity and timelessness.
I have brought to life memories of places; I have unearthed the essence of my connection with nature through the process of painting. I use a combination of vivid memories and improvised abstractions to bring these paintings to life.
