Experimenta’s 5th International Biennial of Media Art will make its only Queensland appearance in Brisbane on 7 April, opening at QUT’s The Block and State Library of Queensland.
Speak to me considers what it means – at this time – to be together. Are we really “more connected than ever”? The free exhibition brings together works that offer multiple perspectives as to how we form connections with others and how we negotiate intimacy in our lives.
A dynamic, hands-on showcase of emerging and experimental interactive and site-specific artworks including animation, projection and digital video by leading media artists from Australia and around the world, Speak to Me debuted in high-profile company at ISEA in 2013 and comes to Brisbane as part of a two-year national tour supporting and presenting new work by Australian and Asia-Pacific artists.
A huge line-up of events is scheduled to coincide with the exhibition, including:
Public Programs
— Slam Poetry performance, featuring Brisbane’s Eleanor Jackson and Besty Turcot
— Free film screenings at SLQ, featuring a month of Speak to me-themed movies as part of SLiQ Flicks
— Megatronics meets art workshops for the kids this school holidays
— Creative Tools for the 21st Century workshops for creative practitioners
— Philip Brophy discusses his creative process and then performs his live score to Andy Warhol’s silent film series Kiss
