Writer, curator, and researcher Mariam Arcilla, along with her friends, will present an evening of performance riffing on the word SKIRT.
SKIRT features artists, writers, and musicians whose practices ‘skirt around’ art-form conventions to shape new approaches for sound, visuals, taste, words, and fashion.
To begin the evening, Arcilla invites you to drink a concoction created around the theme of secrets. You can decipher its contents through a home-made alphabet code. Michelle Xen and Shane Rudken will perform an IMA-exclusive live electronica set that is a juncture between experimental sound, light, visceral synthetic textures, and deconstructed pop. Skullgrabber will present a two-course menu of electronic emulsion that is part analogue noise, home economics, and chakra-shaking sounds. Acting as ‘skirts for the neck and ears’, pieces by Brisbane-based jeweller Bianca Mavrick will be adorning the performers. At the end of the evening, you’re invited to take home words from writers Emily McGuire, Danni Zuvela, and Arcilla.
