Firstdraft is seeking an experienced arts leader with a strong background in exhibition installation to join its team as Assistant Director (Operations and Program). This full-time role coordinates the production, administration, logistics, and project management that support Firstdraft’s day-to-day operations and the successful delivery of its artistic program.
The Assistant Director plays a key role in shaping Firstdraft’s annual program, participating in exhibition call-out assessments alongside the Director and Artist Advisory Committee. The position oversees facilities management with the support of the Gallery Facilities Coordinator and provides technical and install support for exhibiting artists. The role requires technical expertise, proven project management experience, and confidence working closely with artists in a dynamic exhibition environment.
Firstdraft is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to experimentation, risk-taking, and inclusion in contemporary art. Established in 1986 and located in Woolloomooloo on Gadigal land, Firstdraft supports artists at all stages of their careers through exhibitions, publishing, residencies, public programs, and First Peoples–led initiatives. Type: Full-time
Salary: $77,000 – $80,000 plus statutory superannuation
Hours: 35 hours per week (Tuesday–Saturday), with some after-hours and event work
Location: Woolloomooloo, Sydney
