The Waiting Room explores the tension between Indigenous knowledge and modern Australian healthcare. Harmony Ramode’s paintings reflect on urban dwelling, dominating agricultural systems, finite resources, and the ways in which the needs of Country and First Peoples are often dismissed.
An artist from Meanjin (Brisbane) with Gamilaraay, Celtic, and Slavic ancestry, Ramode’s practice engages with First Nations biopolitics in the context of colonisation. Their work often employs humour, absurdity, and non-linear storytelling. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Ramode creates vibrant, cartoon-like paintings that draw viewers in with bold, playful symbolism—before subverting expectations to reveal deeper political truths.
Opening: Friday 5 September, 5–7 pm
