Deadline:

WHEN : 9th – 27th July
WHERE : Edwina Corlette Gallery

For his new exhibition Vipoo Srivilasa has created a series of twelve porcelain figurines. He assumes the role of an entrepreneur with Silicon Valley-like aspirations. His goal is ‘Make a Million Before Dinner’. To do this he has structured a Twelve Step Program to success, each step is personified by a famous work of art.

My latest series of sculptures is a result of reading way too many business and start-up books. If that’s not enough, I also spend a large part of time reading art business and micro business blogs.

I make a dot-point list of what I’ve learnt, especially what I need to do to become successful. I then reinterpret the dot-points and make them into sculptures. This helps me to remember each dot-point better. Each piece is based on a famous painting, a popular sculpture or a religious statue. For example the Ned Kelly painting by Sidney Nolan, Michelangelo’s David, Scream by Edvard Munch, the Statue of Liberty, Savannah Lady Bird by Sylvia Shaw Judson, The Birth of Venus and the Buddha – Vipoo Srivilasa June 2013
