PROJECT Gallery, QCA

Seven local emerging contemporary jewellers and makers of small objects use their art to interpret the perpetual inheritance of social, political, environmental and cultural conditions that occur in our everyday lives.

The artists use precious and semi-precious metals, wood, enamel, photographs, prints and found objects to make works around themes of climate change and environmental decay, local and national political concerns, cultural identity and evolving traditions, ideas of home and introspection, and the relationship between our changing environment and those that inhabit it.

Inheritance seeks to identify issues that we have inherited from the past and to create a dialogue around concerns affecting our lives today and into the future.

Drawn to the inherent characteristics of material culture, the artists explore the importance of objects as containers of narratives, transmitters of knowledge, reminders of the past and lessons for the future. They each look for innovative ways to manipulate traditional techniques and materials to reflect these local and global narratives.
