This showcase exhibition highlights the work of James Randall, winner of the Metro Arts Experimental Portraiture Prize at the 2024 Brisbane Portrait Prize.

“I used to think that art was all about the artist – the style, the artist’s own presentation, all the crazy stuff that swirls around them. Artists were mysteries to me. Now I know that the strength of art lies in the interpretation of the world around us. Finding a place and a truth in the world. The rest is relevant – all artists have their style. Showing the truth to others, though, is how you make a difference – rare gems of moments when someone sees your work and thinks about the world and the human condition. It’s about sharing and stimulating.”

– James Randall

James is a Brisbane artist and member of the Royal Queensland Art Society, with a Bachelor in Visual Communication from Sydney Institute of Technology. After a corporate design career, he began focusing on art in 2020.

James has won the 2024 Brisbane Portrait Prize Experimental Art Prize, was short-listed in the Kilgour Prize 2021 and the Brisbane Portrait Prize 2021/2023, and has been shortlisted for a number of RQAS awards.

His practice comprises painting, photography and digital works.
