This exhibition presents new work by Judy Watson exploring Indigenous strength and resilience in the face of climate change and other pressures. In Gallery 1 and 2 she will exhibit new paintings, drawings and video works addressing ecological themes, inspired by bodies of water, snow melts and natural forms. These will be presented alongside works that question Australia’s treatment of asylum seekers and the holding of Aboriginal cultural material in overseas museums. In Gallery 3 she will present the witness tree, a video and sound installation developed in response to the 180th anniversary of the Myall Creek massacre.
Opening concurrently in CARPARK is Callum McGrath’s Toro, a multi-channel video project inspired by research into cruising spaces used by truck drivers in the industrial Brisbane suburb of Pinkenba. More on that soon.
Opening event: Saturday 1 June, 5 – 7pm
