Dust over Eldorado is an exhibition of new works by Brisbane artist Julie-Anne Milinski. Objects and vessels suggest disparate influences of archetypal pottery forms, ancient Egyptian feline divinity idols, cinerary urns and familial turned wooden objects. Milinski interprets these historical references in her idiosyncratic ceramics with a focus on play, process, form and surface. This emphasis is evident in physical impressions from the hand-building technique: shallow dimples, deep clenches and repetitive textural surface treatments. Macramé and crocheted embellishments reflect her innovative and nostalgic approach to colour and material, and an ongoing fascination with the fertile space between art and craft.
