Born in Guangzhou, China, Jun Chen emigrated to Australia in 1990 and currently lives and works in Brisbane. He trained in painting at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China, and later the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. Chen’s impasto oil paintings are textural observations of the landscape, nudes and still lifes with the paint thickly applied using a pallete knife. Chen has been a regular finalist in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes and his work is in the collections of Parliament House, Canberra, and in private collections in Australia and Asia.
