I use the age-old transcultural/religious tree-of-life symbol as my visual guide to explore perspective and distance, creating cosmic landscapes where the tree either cascades across the canvas or appears as a beacon of life and hope. Cosmology, the scientific study of the Universe [maybe the Multiverse], is a major inspiration. It propels perspective beyond known horizons into the close and far distances of the Universe. In the 21st century, Earth maybe our home, the Universe is our environment. In my work I investigate new ways of thinking about landscape, attempting to untether it from Earth-bound horizons. I also like to think about untethering the tree-of-life from traditional visual interpretations to unleash its meaningfulness with 21st century perspectives.
