Experienced leatherworker, Eleisha Nylund, will teach you the basics of working with vegetable tanned leather, including oiling, dyeing, saddle stitching, stamping and hardware fitting. You’ll walk out of this workshop with not only the purse and keyring you’ve made from scratch, but with the traditional leatherworking skills and tools to start your own leather projects from home.

What you’ll get:

  • Your own leather purse and key ring hand crafted by you
  • Your very own leather making tool kit to take home, including black thread, stitch groover, stitching spacer, stitching chisel and more from Brisbane-based leather supplier
  • All tools and materials required to hand-make your leather purse and key ring, including leather and leather dye and safety equipment
  • Snacks and coffee, tea and juice!

What to bring:

  • Closed in shoes
  • Don’t wear anything too precious because you might get some dyes or oils on it.

About Eleisha

Eleisha Nylund is a leathermaker, designer and jeweller. After experimenting with leather as side project, Eleisha was immediately drawn to the warmness and beautiful subtlety of leather.  Soon after, leather making became a key focus in her creative practice.

Eleisha’s practice involves combining traditional leather crafting techniques with modern technology, to produce durable and timeless pieces. They are designed and built to become part of your story and bear the signs of a life alongside of you.

Eleisha has over 10 years’ experience as a maker and designer. In 2008 she graduated from the Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Art with Honours, majoring in Gold and Silversmithing and has since opened up her own shop in Paddington, Brisbane.
