A collection of short films. Within these films street photographers capture cheeky kids playing in New York’s East Harlem in the 1940s, meanwhile in the film Bridges Go Round the camera dances with a city skyline, and two films showcase their city with the aim to tempt tourists to their shores – pre-war Tokyo and a picturesque Stockholm on the edge of the Baltic Sea.
Program curator Rosie Hays interviews musicians Greta Kelly and Siyavash Doostkhah from ‘Zemzemeh’ about their approach to making film scores and the incredible array of instruments they play. Read all the interviews from the previous ‘City Symphony’ Live Music and Film screenings.

Zemzemeh will craft a bespoke soundscape for these city symphony films that showcases their unique sound that draws on haunting folk and world music traditions blended with experimental, electronic imaginings that firmly plants their sound in the contemporary.
Greta Kelly plays shah kaman (Persian spike-fiddle), violin and theremini with live looping. For over 15 years she has collaborated with renowned artists from Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon and France. She is a founding member of internationally touring groups DeepBlue and Mzaza and cut her teeth in the Czech folk scene and indie Brisbane bands. These days Greta produces and performs in large scale music-theatre and outdoor music-art installations.
Siyavash Doostkhah has studied traditional and mystical music of Iran that he integrates into electronic music which has been featured in theatre, documentaries, outdoor installations and music festivals. In early 90’s, Siyavash studied field recording and electroacoustic sound manipulation with renowned French musique concrète master, Rodolphe Blois at the Queensland Conservatorium. Siyavash is a founding member of world/electronic/experimental music outfit, Memory Loss.
Over the years Siyavash and Greta as Zemzemeh, have collaborated on a number of acoustic and electronic music projects including AmphiSonic, a recent sound installation for the World Science Festival, Brisbane.
