Jan Murphy Gallery presents Ekka, Lucy Culliton’s fifth solo exhibition with the gallery.
Known for painting what’s close at hand—her animals, her garden, her home in Bibbenluke—Culliton’s work brims with warmth, detail, and affection for the rural world around her. Ekka was inspired by her 2024 visit to the Royal Queensland Show in Brisbane, where she immersed herself in the sights, animals, crafts, and cooking of the iconic event.
“There was abundance of animals, crafts, cooking… all my favourite subjects for painting. I could get up nice and close for drawing or painting with my gouache. Thank you Brisbane for putting on such a great show!” — Lucy Culliton
Culliton’s work has been recognised nationally, with pieces held in the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, and other major collections. A celebrated finalist in the Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman Prizes, she continues to bring charm and character to Australian painting.
