‘Moods and Muses’ is a series of paintings by Margaret Ingles exploring the emotional qualities of the human experience. Some are simple and classical portraits with a contemporary twist, whilst others convey more of a narrative. The paintings were inspired by the artist’s models, her muses.

“My models are more than bones and flesh. They inspire in me something deeper and more interesting. I have always been fascinated with the creative process, and the thrill of imagining something into being that never existed before. Where do the ideas and the inspiration come from? I love the idea of the muse, who inspires and motivates the creative process. It’s a concept which has been around since the Ancient Greeks. My modern muses may not be the goddesses of antiquity, but they fulfil exactly the same role as they did back then.” – Margaret Ingles
