For Margarita Georgiadis, the process of painting resembles that of writing a book. In her work we discover a record of life which finds resonance through its unfolding. Each of these paintings relate to her complete oeuvre, but they also singularly explore a particular period or facet of experience that is crystallized by its title and gives a sense of episode or chapter similar to that of a vignette in a narrative.
Georgiadis’s methodology draws on the autobiographical, but she appreciates that the personal is also, by degree, universal. Her work functions as an enactment of our human impulse for philosophical exploration. Guided by writings from physics to psychology, her investigations invariably traverse a diversity of realms before the physical process of painting provides an opportunity to elucidate the relationship between thought and emotion.
The act of creation triggered by the artist’s research then finds momentary resolution in its expression on the canvas. It is only on reflection though, when artist and viewer are one, that it is possible to grasp what has been learned.
