Jan Manton Art is pleased to announce upcoming exhibition Surge by Brisbane based artist Michelle Gilbert.

“This series continues my investigation of landscape as a means of self portrait.  The works consider personal encounters I have had with the everyday sublime where the landscape has suddenly appeared to surge with subtle energy.

While it is often the more grandiose or concrete moments we think of as defining us, these works contemplate how the small experiences of place culminate to form memory and self.

In paintings where I am physically present, my figure performs to unite the works, reminding the viewer of my act of looking and also of their own”.
