Nicholas Tossmann’s practice investigates his experience of being a conceptual artist as part of his philosophical search of self and purpose. He explores these ideas methodically by analysing and questioning his art practice, which involves the process of researching, making and critically reflecting. Text, diagrams and mapping are utilized as a self-reflexive approach to art making, often taking the form of performance, installation and moving image. Tossmann’s work offers an insight into his oscillating sense of purpose through practice. His work invites a contemplation of the expansive potential of art to question our purpose.
Tossmann is a recent graduate from QUT with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Art) and upon graduating was awarded the EyeLine magazine Prize. He has recently completed a 4-month residency with The Walls Ormeau, and a 3-month residency with Level Up, Coolangatta. Tossmann recently exhibited in group exhibitions at Metro Arts and Outer Space
