Ode – to Gwyn celebrates Australia’s most beloved potter, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott OAM, through the work of 12 contemporary Queensland potters presented in the style of a still life. Known for her love of form, function, and the poetic arrangement of vessels, Gwyn’s legacy continues to shape the hearts and hands of Australian ceramicists.
The exhibition’s title draws on the traditional meaning of an ode – a lyrical poem of varied form dedicated to a person or subject. Here, each potter’s work forms a ‘line’ in this visual ode to Gwyn, displayed in a manner that echoes the rhythm and intimacy of her arrangements.
Special thanks to Patricia Szonert for the loan of Blue Trail (2005) and to poet Nathan Shepherdson for his own written ode to Gwyn.
