Join artist Aaron Butt, winner of the 2024 Moreton Bay Art Prize, for an engaging afternoon workshop focused on painting techniques across non-white surfaces.

In this hands-on, beginner-friendly session, Aaron will guide participants through painting on wood, paper, and canvas. You’ll explore foundational elements of colour theory, consider the line between painting and drawing, and reflect on the question: When is a painting truly finished?

Through a series of guided exercises, participants will:

  • Experiment with different painting surfaces

  • Learn how brush types impact texture and effect

  • Gain insight into Aaron’s personal process and approach

Whether you’re new to painting or looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers an accessible and creative environment to explore new techniques.

About the Artist:
Aaron Butt is a painter based in Ningi, Queensland. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, his work captures fleeting light conditions in the landscapes around Sandstone Point and beyond. He paints on both canvas and found materials to evoke place and atmosphere.
