Monday morning is an abstract exploration between painting and sculpture. Objecthood and the expanded spatial quality of abstract painting bounces between the formal and sensual gauge of sight and surface. Material considerations are used to subvert the expectations related to texture, mass & scale.

Vida Lahey’s painting Monday morning 1912 resonates with Kabi Kabi/Sunshine Coast based artist Pippa Makgill. Her exhibitions are fabricated environments consisting of sculptural gestures. More than a century on, it’s the delicate representation of light across form and the almost invisible labour of domesticity that imbues both Lahey’s and Makgill’s work.

Makgill’s own Monday morning playfully investigates colour building mass, iridescent surfaces, atmospheric effects, and the weight of quotidian tasks.
