Portrait of an Artist with Sebastian Di Mauro

Deadline:

State Library Queensland

The first in our Portrait of an Artist talks for 2019 offers a unique insight into the life and work of accomplished Queensland artist Sebastian Di Mauro.

Sebastian’s work has risen to international prominence via exhibitions, residencies and art prizes throughout his career. Born in Innisfail in North Queensland to an Italian–Australian family, Sebastian’s art practice has touched upon themes of migration, citizenship, belonging, bi-culturalism and diasporic memory.

Brisbane’s urban landscape is dotted with many of Sebastian’s public art pieces and we are fortunate to have Sebastian back in town as he opens his latest exhibition Greenback at Onespace Gallery.

Watch a free screening of an interview with Sebastian filmed for the James C Sourris AM Collection of contemporary Australian artist interviews. Following the screening, enjoy an intimate Q & A session with Sebastian and arts writer Louise Martin-Chew to hear his fascinating musings into how an artist thinks, feels and works.

The Portrait of an Artist series is made possible thanks to the generosity of James C Sourris AM through the Queensland Library Foundation.
