Proposition is a group exhibition at Milani Gallery centred on the Hermannsburg landscape tradition and the writing of Ian Burn and Ann Stephen on Albert Namatjira.

Bringing together paintings, drawings, sculpture and text, the exhibition explores historical and contemporary perspectives connected to the influential Central Australian painting movement and its ongoing impact.

The exhibition includes works by Ian Burn, Albert Namatjira, Tom Nicholson, Otto Pareroultja and Mervyn Rubuntja. Highlights include Tom Nicholson’s Gorge Photographs, 13 September 1939 alongside recent landscape paintings by Mervyn Rubuntja.

Through these works, Proposition reflects on artistic lineage, landscape representation and the cultural significance of the Hermannsburg school within Australian art history.
