Deadline:

Institute of Modern Art

Join Jacqui Shelton for a live reading via Zoom of Enlarge my coast, an essay commissioned by the IMA for Making Art Work.

Following the reading Jacqui will be joined by artist Kinly Grey for a discussion on the ways writing and reading can be embedded in or parallel to an art practice, touching on the sociality of reading and learning during the pandemic as a way of connecting with others; attempting to think beyond personal experience; and the potential in doing nothing in the context of productivity-obsessed contemporary life.

Jacqui Shelton is an artist and writer born on Barada Barna land and based in Narrm, Melbourne, Australia. She explores the complications of performance and presence, and how voice, text, and image can collaborate or undermine one another. She has exhibited extensively throughout Australia, including presenting exhibitions and performance works at Gertrude Contemporary, West Space, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Tarrawarra Museum, MADA Faculty Gallery, Metro Arts, Screen Space, and with Channels Festival and Liquid Architecture. She holds a PhD from Monash University where she teaches photography, as well as tutoring in the Masters of Media at RMIT.
