Deadline:

Milani Gallery

Using a range of media, including works on paper, video, light and sound, Sandra Selig creates subtle works from commonplace materials such as paper, string, sewing thread and phosphorescent paint. Her work often investigates concepts of intangibility and the unseen, with her evocative site-specific installations in particular revealing a myriad of nuanced complexities around the transformation and perception of space. Selig’s practice also extends to music, and she is a member of the Brisbane-based electronic duo Primitive Motion and was previously a member of The Deadnotes.

Selig has been exhibiting widely in Australia since 2000. Selected exhibitions include Framed Movements, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2014); sleeping rainbow interleaves, Sarah Cottier Gallery, Sydney (2013); Contemporary Australia: Women, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane (2012); be some other material, Artspace, Sydney (2011); New Psychedelia, University of Queensland Art Museum, Brisbane (2011); Before and After Science: 2010 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide (2010); Waves Depend on Us (Light from Tokyo), Milani Gallery, Brisbane (2009); Invisible Surround, Milani Gallery, Brisbane (2008); Circuit, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2006); and Primavera, MCA, Sydney (2004). Her work is held in a number of Australia’s public art collections.

Opening event: Saturday 21 April, 3-5pm
