Past, Present and Future Tense of the Moving Image in the Griffith University Art Collection is a panel discussion exploring the evolving role of the moving image in art. From experimental film to social media, this conversation reflects on decades of cultural, political, and technological change, examining how video art has captured and shaped shifting truths.
The discussion brings together Waanyi artist Judy Watson, who has worked in both video and digital formats; Beth Jackson, former curator at GUAM; and is chaired by media art curator Kim Machan. Together, they will consider how moving image works are contextualised, preserved, and shared with future generations.
Preceding the panel, from 4–6pm, short video works from the Griffith University Art Collection will be screened in the QCAD Lecture Theatre. This includes works by Brook Andrew, Gordon Bennett, Mikala Dwyer, and others—featuring a curated selection from Art Rage, a program originally broadcast on ABC’s rage during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Time:
4–6pm: Screening of short video works
6pm: Drinks
6.30pm: Panel discussion
Cost: Free (registration required)
