WHEN : 22nd May – 8th June / Opening 22nd May, 6:00pm
WHERE : Metro Arts
Seeing Things presents new work by emerging artists Dan McCabe and Mitchell Donaldson, co-founders of Addition Artist-Run Initiative. Incorporating found objects, drawing, painting and photography, the exhibition engages their shared interest in abstraction and materiality in relation to contemporary forms of representation, establishing a dialogue across their respective practices.
Interrogating notions of form, stasis and presence surrounding memorial practices, Donaldson extends his enquiry into the potential of subtle interventions to unmake found objects and images. McCabe continues his research into preconceived understandings of an image, encouraging the viewer to approach his compositions with greater scrutiny by altering their material and visual stability.
Ryan Renshaw, Donal Fitzpatrick and Liam O’Brien also join the artists in a panel discussion around their practice and collaborative relationship on Wednesday, 29 May at 6pm. Come and share your thoughts on the exhibition as we interrogate this body of work.
As part of Metro Arts’ Friday Night on June 7, Mitchell Donaldson and Dan McCabe will attempt to reconfigure the exhibition. Looking for the potential of re-presentation, the artists challenge their creative relationship and dialogue in the exhibition.
