Jan Manton Art

In this exhibition of new paintings, Brisbane-based artist Simon Degroot investigates ideas of permanence and change in the landscape. Architectural and other key details are cut from photographs and re-employed as abstracted forms for painting. Flattened and overlaid, these collaged details are sometimes revealed through translucent veils or concealed underneath opaque paint application.

These works present a collection of remembered places and monuments recreated as flat abstracted forms in a collapse of memories and experiences.

Simon Degroot continues to exhibit throughout Australia, with regular exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. In 2015 and 2018, he was awarded the Moreton Bay Art Award.
