Split Screen presents a curated arrangement of new and existing video installations by Simone Hine. Across these works the borders of the screen, as both a conceptual and material limit, are explored, ruptured and tested. Playing the protagonists in all of the works, Hine multiplies herself between and within works: an identity constructed through screens. Here, fleeting moments of cinema and television are re-imagined and stretched, temporally and spatially. Screens accumulate across the exhibition, reflecting on performance, cultural memory and representations of the feminine. Through the spatial potential of the gallery space, the works construct new narratives, converging and diverging from the forms and technical material of the popular culture industry that inspired and enabled them.
